At Elyria Catholic, students regularly extend their learning beyond the classroom, engaging in experiences that challenge them to think critically, communicate effectively, and grow as global citizens.
This past March, twenty EC students traveled to New York City to participate in one of the most respected Model United Nations conferences for high school students. Over several days, they joined peers from across the country and around the world in a rigorous, fast-paced simulation centered on global issues and international diplomacy.
Representing assigned countries, students took part in formal debate, negotiated with peers, built alliances, and collaborated on proposed solutions to complex international challenges. In addition to committee work, they participated in skill-building workshops focused on communication, leadership, and diplomacy, with the experience culminating in engagement connected to the United Nations itself.
The conference provided students with an opportunity to apply classroom learning in a real-world context while strengthening their confidence as communicators, critical thinkers, and problem-solvers.
Elyria Catholic extends appreciation to Model UN moderators Mrs. April Hanlon, Mr. Brian Hanlon, and Mr. Taylor for their guidance and preparation of the team, as well as to Panther families for supporting opportunities that enrich student growth beyond the classroom.
